Dragonfly Forest in Pennsylvania will be offering two separate summer camp sessions dedicated to children on the autism spectrum. The first session is a traditional camp that runs from June 21 – June 25, 2010. The second is a series of autism day camps that runs from July 5 – July 8, 2010. Both camps are for children on the autism spectrum between the ages of 7 and 14.

Although the story only includes information about three Pennsylvania autism schools, there are several more in the state. I just saw this bit about a special needs ice hockey team on the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette website.

An ice hockey team, the Steel City Icebergs, is being formed for players with autism, Down syndrome and developmental delays. The announcement was made by the Greater Pittsburgh Special Hockey Association, a division of USA Hockey and the American Special Hockey Association.

The first registration session will be on June 6 at the Robert Morris University Island Sports Center. For more information, email samaust@zoominternet.net.

I have just added The Vista School, located in Hershey, Pennsylvania, to the Pennsylvania Autism Schools section of The Autism Education Site. The Vista School was founded in 2002 with a two-fold mission:

1) operate a day school and provide other educational and therapeutic programs for children diagnosed with autism employing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis in a consistent and intensive manner and (2) to act as a resource to local school districts and parents striving to meet the considerable needs of the children in their care
