The 2012 Arizona “Back to School & More” Autism/Asperger’s Conference is scheduled for September 13 and 14, 2012 in the West Building of the Phoenix Convention Center. The convention center is located at 100 North 3rd Street in downtown Phoenix. Conference topics will focus on autism education, therapy, speech, social and medical issues.
Paula Kluth, Ph.D will present the keynote address, You’re Going to Love This Kid!: Educating Students with Autism In Inclusive Schools, on Thursday, September 13. Dr. Paula Kluth is a consultant, author, advocate, and independent scholar who works with teachers and families to provide inclusive opportunities for students with disabilities and to create more responsive and engaging schooling experiences for all learners. Paula is a former special educator who has served as a classroom teacher and inclusion facilitator. Her professional interests include differentiating instruction and inclusive schooling.
Friday’s keynote, The Science of Making Friends: Evidence-Based Social Skills Training for Adolescents and Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders PhD, will be presented by Dr. Elizabeth Laugeson. Dr. Elizabeth Laugeson is a licensed clinical psychologist and Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at the UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior. She is the Founder and Director of the UCLA PEERS Clinic, an outpatient program providing evidence-based parent-assisted social skills training for adolescents and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other social impairments.
