Our First Blog Party

Ultimate Blog Party 2009

I have chosen to participate in the 5 Minutes for Mom Ultimate Blog Party 2009. I am a bit nervous as this is The Autism Education Site’s first blog party, carnival, event, etc. Welcome to my site, I am Melissa and I am the mom of two children on the autism spectrum. When my youngest daughter was diagnosed 2.5 years ago I was immediately thrust into a world of unknowns – unknown outcomes, unknown educational choices, unknown everything. I turned to the internet for information and found that there is a lot of great information available from other parents.

For me, navigating the world of Individualized Education Plans, school-based therapies, adequate progress, etc was difficult. I am the daughter of an educator and so I was able to get a head start among my fellow moms who were navigating this alone. I decided to create The Autism Education Site to provide information about autism education issues/concerns, specialized autism schools as well as summer camps for children on the autism spectrum.

As my children got older, my son tested into the gifted range in verbal ability and thus falls into the Twice Exceptional category. I am new to the world of 2E so I’m just getting my feet wet with that topics.

So, welcome to my site and I hope to connect with other parents or educators.

Follow me on Twitter – @MommyMellie and check out my MommyBlog – Mutterings of a Mindless Mommy.

To celebrate my first blog party, I’m going to give away the following two books. Due to high international shipping costs, U.S. and Canadian visitors only please (for the book giveaway).

  1. Great to meet you Melissa :) Don’t be nervous about joining in on the party, it’s fun to meet everyone. I think this is such a great resource for parents of autistic children. It’s awesome that there are such devoted ladies like you out there. :)

  2. Hello :) Great place you’ve got here. I have a 5 year old who I believe to be on the spectrum, although he is undiagnosed. I have taken him gluten-free and seen great results.
It’s great what you’re doing – I’ll be back to read more :)
Hope you’ll stop by Wishing Penny and say hello. I’m #130. I make a mistake and posted twice – of course it’d be me to do that!!

  3. Hi Melissa. Lovely to meet you as part of the Ultimate Blog Party 09. This is my first year participating as well. :)

  4. Hi Melissa,
So nice to meet you! I’m glad you decided to participate – it’s a great way to connect with other like-minded bloggers.

I’m looking forward to reading more about your experiences and the information you have to share. Enjoy the party. :)

  5. I was drawn to your blog because of the name. I used to be an Autism Specialist but now I’m just a regular school psychologist. Love the Wrightslaw book! Have you been to one of his workshops? If not, I recommend it!

Glad you joined the Ultimate Blog Party!

  9. Hi again. I just tried to post a comment and I’m not sure what I did. I’ll be brief just in case the first post does show up-ahhh!!! I have 5 children-2 of whom are on the spectrum. We have battled the public school system and the books that you are giving away are vital resources to parents!! Kudos to you for providing them as a give away.
Autism is life changing. We were not prepared when our daughter received her diagnosis at the age of 2 or when our son was diagnosed at the age of 4 but God brings you through what He brings us to and we are better parents because of our journey.
I will be thinking of you.

  10. Hi, welcome to the party. This is my first year too! It’s nice to meet you. I have a friend that works with Autism Children. Great blog….
